(Champdoré, December 12, 2024) – During a special meeting on Monday, November 25, 2024, the municipal council of Champdoré unanimously approved its 2025 general operating budget, totalling $5,605,872. This decision represents a significant milestone for the municipality, which remains committed to responsible financial management while prioritizing community needs.
For 2025, the property tax rate will remain unchanged for all the wards, a decision made possible by a 10.7% increase in the municipality's tax base, which now stands at $497,027,040.
The budget emphasizes investments in key areas, including municipal asset management, which will receive over $280,000 for road and infrastructure maintenance. This funding will be supplemented by applications for financial support from provincial and federal governments. Fire services will also see a significant funding boost to meet the growing needs of both brigades. This includes acquiring additional radios for the Trunked Mobile Radio (TMR) communication system implemented in 2024 for the Saint-Antoine Fire Department and additional equipment needed for proper operation.
An amount of $25,000 will be allocated to improving and securing municipal trails, while an additional $116,000 is designated for summer and winter road maintenance in the Saint-Antoine ward. The Public Safety Committee will continue to receive $15,000 to support initiatives aimed at enhancing community safety.
The budget also addresses the needs of community organizations by increasing the donation fund to $20,000, allowing the town to support more local initiatives and requests. Communication efforts will also receive a boost, with an additional $5,000 bringing the total communication budget to $20,000 to maintain clear and transparent communication with residents.
The Town of Champdoré is also working in collaboration with NB Power to complete the installation of streetlights in several neighbourhoods to enhance safety and comfort for residents.
The general operating budget for 2025 is distributed across several sectors. General government services account for $836,395, protective services receive $1,690,629, transportation services are allocated $1,418,591, and environmental hygiene services are assigned $415,795. Environmental development services receive $174,882, recreational and cultural services are budgeted at $616,640, and financial services total $452,940.
Water and sewer operations will require $676,438, with annual fees for single-family residences remaining at $630, unchanged from the previous year.
Mayor Jean-Pierre Richard expressed pride in the budget’s outcomes, stating, "Thanks to a growing tax base, we have been able to stabilize tax rates and service costs while investing in key priorities such as public safety, road maintenance, and essential infrastructure. Our commitment remains to provide high-quality services while respecting residents' ability to pay."
